Vasko Vassilev

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR,TRITTICO

VIOLIN VIRTUOSO / CONDUCTOR

Vasko Vassilev started his collaboration with Trittico as a guest star performer and then as a signed recording artist for Trittico Classics.  Vassilev was a child prodigy in his native Bulgaria from where he was invited to the prestigious Moscow Central School of Music. Thriving there, he won his first international competition with the Grand Prix at the Jacques Thibault Competition in Paris as the youngest competitor having just turned 17.  In quick succession, he completed a Grand Slam within the next 2 years triumphing at the Carl Flesch in London and the Paganini Competition in Genoa. This launched him onto a remarkable solo career across the European continent where his brilliant virtuosity led to the Berlin press hailing him as ‘Super Paganini’.

In 1991, Trittico invited him to tour Asia with the London Mozart Players as one of 3 concerto soloists. His charisma endeared him to a new audience in Asia and Trittico Classics promptly signed him and his elite ensemble ‘Laureate’, which he had formed uniquely to comprise only international prizewinners. The next year he led Laureate on a successful tour of Asia, returning to Europe where despite his tender years, he was inundated with offers to lead and to appear as concerto soloist with some of the most prestigious symphony orchestras in the UK, France and Germany.

Eager to explore beyond the conventional instrumental repertoire, he accepted Trittico’s offer of employment without hesitation, leaving his freelance career under management in Munich to settle in London. At Trittico, he began to flourish beyond the normal career path of a solo classical violinist. He has become well-recognised for successes in all areas as a soloist, conductor, programme director and producer, Trittico continues to service demands for his exceptional leadership qualities. In 2024, Trittico took great pride that he surpassed the honour of being the Royal Opera House’s first-ever concertmaster by becoming the King’s Concertmaster at the historic Coronation.

After many years of collaboration, Vasko became a director and then a shareholder in Trittico. Following Pamela Tan-Nicholson stepping down as Founder-Director from day-to-day management, Vasko Vassilev is both Artistic Director and Managing Director of Trittico.
